Not so long ago we took the girls abroad for the first time. We went on a cruise to the Norwegian Fjords and the scenery was stunning. It was also lovely to give Pixie the opportunity to broaden her horizons, having never previously left Blighty. However, now we’ve done it, I must confess that the extravagant cost was simply not worth the pay-off. We had a lovely time – but no lovelier than if we’d had a ‘staycation’. With hindsight I kind of wish we’d saved ourselves a lot of money and not ventured quite so far! So, for our next trip we’re looking a little closer to home, where my husband’s extended family live: we’re planning a trip to do some of the best family days out in Norfolk!

I can’t even remember the last time we caught up with my husband’s cousins so it would be great to do that as part of our mini break. Naturally we’ll also need a place to stay and I think for ease we’d look to hire a property for a few days. I’ve also been looking into what family-friendly sightseeing is available to see and do. Here are the adventures on our agenda…

Best Family Days Out in Norfolk

1. Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure

A few months ago we visited a different dinosaur park and Pixie loved it.

As well as a dinosaur trail, Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure has plenty of other attractions including animals to see, high ropes and a splash zone which is open until the end of September. With the recent weather and the excellent reviews, this is a must for our family!

2. Fritton Owl Sanctuary

The girls are both animal lovers – what child isn’t? – and (for a small fee) you may even be able to hold an owl! I know the girls would adore the opportunity to get up so close and personal so this is another one for our list.

3. BeWILDerwood

I absolutely love the idea of this enchanting place, where imagination is king! There’s fun for all the family with jungle bridges; an amazing sky maze; boat rides; tree houses; zip wires and more! There’s even a book series based on this incredible day out, and parents are strongly encouraged to join in with the magic!

With Pixie having such a rich love of all-things-fantasy, and Elfin already being such a daredevil, I can’t wait to visit!

4. Great Yarmouth Sealife Centre

About a year ago Pixie was fortunate enough to visit behind the scenes at the London Aquarium. It was a very special visit and she was lucky enough to feed the rays! Of course being so young she didn’t appreciate the privilege at the time, and since it was a press trip we were limited to what we actually saw.

Now she’s a little older and because Elfin also loves fish, I’d love to take them to do a sealife centre properly, and at our leisure.

5. Norwich Cathedral

Ever since Pixie was invited into the church attached to her preschool, she’s been fascinated by these majestic buildings. I can’t say I blame her, and I’ve no doubt this beautiful and imposing building would be equally awe-inspiring for all the family (except possibly Elfin!).

Have you visited Norfolk? What were your favourite sights, and which attractions would you say make the best family days out in Norfolk? Let me know if I’ve missed any must-sees off my list!
