[Ad] Review of the kingsize Hybrid Mattress Original, designed to provide full body support and keep you cool at night.

I’ve not spoken about my personal life on here for quite some time, because there have been a lot of changes over the last couple of years. Suffice to say, I’m currently preparing to move home and start a new chapter in my life.
As part of these changes, it felt high time I replaced my mattress, which was around 7 years old. So I was delighted to collaborate with Simba to review their groundbreaking first Hybrid® design mattress.
Key Features of the Simba Hybrid Mattress Original
The Hybrid® Mattress Original is listed as the top end mattress of the Simba comfort range. And being designed to offer comfort and support is a great reason for me to want to review this mattress – I frequently complain of various running-related injuries, and I’m not getting any younger!
The Simba website lists the following key features for their Hybrid® design:
- Their first, ground-breaking Hybrid®. Top of the range for patented tech, & over ½ million happy customers so far.
- Highest spring count. The highest spring count of the Comfort range, to support spinal alignment & pressure relief.
- Designed for cooler sleep. An extra deep layer of Simbatex® foam encourages more airflow and elasticity.
- Body aligned support. Foam base features nine support zones designed to mirror the body, especially heavier, wider areas such as the hips and shoulders.
- Soft, zip-off top. Knitted cover includes zip-off top for washing or replacing.
- Made in the UK, for the UK. In zero-waste factories, reducing transport emissions.
- 100% recyclable. They also offer convenient mattress recycling. Any brand or size, no purchase required.
- Vacuum-packed. Delivered flat in a protective, damp proof plastic bag with a cardboard outer.
This mattress also currently has almost 125,000 reviews, with an average score of 4.8, which is pretty impressive.
My Previous Experience With a Vacuum-Packed Mattress
The last mattress I had (from a different brand) was also delivered vacuum-packed. I was pregnant at the time and my standout memory of it was that the smell when I opened it up was so incredibly overpowering that I had to sleep elsewhere for the first couple of nights.
With this in mind I was somewhat apprehensive about whether that experience would be repeated. Keep reading to find out how I fared this time around!

Review of the Hybrid® Mattress Original
My review of the mattress is split into three sections:
- Delivery
- Packaging and manoeuvrability
- Comfort and sleep
Mattress Delivery
I arranged with my Simba contact for delivery of the mattress on a Friday, so I was somewhat surprised to receive a text message advising me on the Thursday that my Simba delivery was due that day.
I was unsure whether I’d manage to get the mattress where I needed by myself, so I’d already made arrangements with my partner to be around for delivery day. Thankfully, it was incredibly simple to delay delivery by one day.
On the Friday morning I received a courts call followed by two more emails regarding delivery, with two different time slots. I was confused but luckily I was planning to be home all day so this wasn’t an issue.
As it turned out, I had two separate deliveries. And when the first arrived I quickly realised what the confusion was about…
The package was no bigger than a large letter – definitely not mattress-sized! In fact it was a hygiene bag to pack away my old mattress for disposal, which Simba had kindly also arranged for me.
I will just point out here that any miscommunication about this may well have been because I didn’t go through the standard ordering process.
Once I realised that the actual mattress was still in transit and opened the correct email, I was able to track the delivery easily, to see not only where my mattress was on a map in real time, but also how many stops were to be made before it arrived.
I have since checked out different delivery options on the Samba website, with varying levels of specificity time-wise (nominated day vs 4 hour window), and assistance (delivery to room of choice vs installation, plus removal of all packaging).
Packaging and Manoeuvrability
I’d ordered a kingsize mattress and wasn’t certain how it would be packaged on arrival. I also couldn’t remember the size of the previous vacuum-packed mattress I’d received, and so I was surprised at the (relatively small) size of the box.

The mattress was essentially flattened, folded in half, rolled, shrink-wrapped, and then finally boxed.
The box was easy enough to manoeuvre upstairs to the bed frame between my partner and I, and from there it was easy to install. It came out of the box looking like this:

(Incidentally, the hygiene bag for the old mattress also made getting that downstairs a breeze, because it slid smoothly along the carpet!)
However, just to reiterate, the delivery team will leave the mattress in your preferred room if you require assistance with this.
Upon opening the mattress up, I waited for the smell to hit me. And while I could detect it, it was not pungent! I can’t say for certain whether it’s the brand or the fact I was pregnant before, but either way, I was very relieved.
The mattress expanded to it’s true size over the next little while (it takes 6 jours to reflate, and up to 72 house to fully regain its shape), expanding from this:

…To this:

And then came the real test: sleeping on it…
Comfort and Sleep
The 25cm deep Hybrid® Mattress Original is a medium-firm hybrid mattress, With 5 layers, 2500 springs, and a Simbatex® cool cushioning layer, it combines the benefits of both a sprung mattress and a foam mattress. Its coils are designed to contour to the body, with each spring compressing in response to body weight, offering full body support and soothing pressure relief.
The deep layer of Simbatex® foam is infused with graphite, a naturally occurring heat conductor to pull excess warmth and humidity away from the body. It encourages the flow of fresh air, offering increased breathability to reduce overheating.
With the weather just beginning to heat up, this has already proven invaluable, particularly for my partner who tends to get hot at night. And I’m sure this feature will come into its own over the summer months!
I’ve slept on the mattress for 10 nights now and both my partner and I find it very comfortable. We’ve slept well each night and woken up feeling good.
While it feels too soon to say whether the mattress will be life-changing, I can certainly say we’ve been impressed so far.
The upshot? We would both recommend the Hybrid® Mattress Original, especially for anyone who complains about aches and pains or gets over hot at night.
